I am a big fan of the Star Wars movies and was really excited about painting this when asked by Sergio if i could transform his brand new Arai lid into a Revenge of the Sith, work of art! |

| Airbrushing the Force! |

The portrait work on this shape of lid worked so well with the design, the hooded characters showing the Dark Side seemed made-to-measure for the Arai, as was the perfectly fitting Darth Vader helmet on the rear. The image sat perfectly over the vents and scoops as if it was meant to go on! I feel the force was quite strong on this one! |

| Super-Detail with the Iwata Micron |

I am a real detail freak! I love painting very detailed portraits and artwork, skulls etc and the Iwata Custom Micron range makes this much easier. The airbrushes these days are just so well engineered and the super-fine, smooth 0.2mm needles give a hairline, airbrushing control, perfect for this type of work. |

Check the size of the airbrush and my finger on the left! This detail on the back of the helmet was very small but the aibrush handled it fine. Most custom painting art is done this way with simply white base coat first and then, tansparent colour is added over the top to build depth, like glazing an oil panting. 90% of the mural is acheived at this stage, with just one colour! This type of illustration work is named 'grisaille' which basically means a monochramatic image. |
