Reign of Fire!

Reign of Fire!

You'll probably know by now, but I love painting fire-breathing dragons! I rendered this visual using 3D software to build and light the dragon and then I used Photoshop to paint the details and add the flames and background etc. I wasn't sure at this stage what I would do with the background, the Celtic images came as I worked on the tank.

This is always the first step in any paint job so the customer gets a feel for where you plan to take the job before committing to paint.

A full step by Step of this and other new jobs is available to all members of the Organic Image Club HERE

Freehand Details

Freehand Details

This is how it looks b4 major colors go on. Lots of patience and freehand airbrushing so far and we're on the third day here for time.

Winged Sides

Winged Sides

It's very difficult to photograph a Kandy Apple Red job! You can see how I took the wings and used the shape of the tank to wrap them around the sides. All this detail was done 'as I painted', organicly I guess.

Getting a feel for the artwork and letting the shapes and lines of the metal lead you is the best part about it, you have a rough idea where you're going but adventures happen along the way!

Illuminated Fender

Illuminated Fender

This fender had holes cut which were backed up with a clear gel. behind this would sit the LED indicators and brake lights so it was my job to work this into the dragon's mouth.

And here is the finished effect! Looks much better when you see the actual bike as photo's never do the work justice. The dragon artwork is subtle and blends into the bikes lines from front to back. Had some great feedback back about this job and it made a show-stopping appearance at the London - Brighton Ace cafe run recently. Apparently, the cameraman from Discovery Channel's American Chopper took a shine to it and took a few shots!

Look out for DragonHawk appearing on OCC then in the future!
