So . . white down first and this is fine PPG base coat. Because the artwork is so large I only need to mask the edges before freehanding all the detail with the cool HP-CH airbrush - my favourite and you can get one on this website |

Here I have finished what is called the 'grisialle (underpainting) by simply using white only and acheiving all the midtones, shadows and highlights I need to model the image. You can now take the House of Kolor Kandy Koncentrates (in this case Tangerine) and glaze over the details. The KK's are like a transparent stain. imagine painting stained glass . . that is what a kandy koncentrate dye is like, it is a true transparent colour and will leave ALL your detail work showing thru - VERY cool!

The House of Kolor True Fire paint kit (airbrush-size) is a great starter-kit for attempting this job as it contains the tangerine, Yellow, Apple Red and Purple Pearl in a great and affordable airbrush sized kit. For the more darker areas simply add more transparent glaze and the colors go darker. I also used HOK KK Root Beer

Dave nailing down the artwork at this stage with SG100 Intercoat Clear to protect it and get it ready for the HOK Chrome Paint which needs to go onto a very shiny surface so it reflects the silver particles correctly. You have to then nauil it down again, preferably with an alcohol-based intercoat to avoid it fading back to a dull grey.
I have found a great tip for this - Medea Water-based, Urethane TOP COAT which you can also get right here on the site! Am I good to you or what? It is easy to apply with an airbrush like the Iwata ECLIPSE CS and dries to a high-gloss sheen, perfect for the HOK Chrome paint to sit on and look VERY Shiny :)

Transfer tape is used (large masking tape) to mask off all the areas of black and snake airbrush work ready for the HOK chrome Finish paint which is very good and worked really well for this project against the HOK Metajulls Black base coat

It's difficult to see in the pic but the Chrome paint works really well. You MUST apply it VERY gently, the surface HAS to be grease-free with NO fingerprints and it has to be glossy or it simply won't work, it just goes dull like a greyish-silver colour, which is crap!
